“Rebirth”

Earthenware with grog- cone 04 reduction fired
Year:2024

Fabricated from earthenware and reduction-fired to cone 04, this vessel powerfully expresses the cycles of birth and death. Its dark, earthy surface, achieved through the controlled reduction of oxygen in the kiln, serves as a metaphor for the radical change embodied by Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction and rebirth. This piece is an homage to Kali, a deity who dismantles the old to pave the way for the new. Much like a snake shedding its skin, and Kali herself defying patriarchal norms, this vessel symbolizes the shedding of outdated beliefs and habits. The snakes adorning its surface, ancient Hindu symbols of eternity and cyclical renewal, further reinforce this central theme of controlled destruction and transformative force. The reduction firing process, mirroring the 'choking' of oxygen, becomes a physical manifestation of this powerful cycle, culminating in a vessel that speaks to the profound journey toward personal liberation
